Fort Rinella - Malta Jousting Tournament, the first in 400 years!

Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna - The Malta Heritage Trust has organised a jousting tournament at Fort Rinella in Kalkara. The tournament took place between the 30th of March and the 1st of April 2012 and the funds raised during that weekend will be used for the renovation of the fort itself.

This was the first tournament of its type in Malta since the time of the Knights on the Island, more than 400 years ago. The event provided a unique spectacle for all ages. Everything was themed accordingly, with food, drinks and open areas that made it an ideal event for all the family.

The show consisted of a Jousting tournament with all its phases - from the well known cavalry clashes to on-ground sword fighting and knights displays, visitors where also invited to try on original armour! The Jousting Tournament displays were conducted by British experts in the field, who came purposely for this occasion.

Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna would like to raise interest within the local public and make this event a yearly one, where Maltese may find a new passion for a sport, a sport that is part of the Maltese National Heritage.
